Chapter 18
Fallon
Fucking inconsiderate asshole.
Touching my car. His brother's car. After all the low blows and jabs heâs made. Disgusting.
This is who he is. Who he will always be.
Finally, Iâm back in my room and the floor is still covered in books and random papers I found in the attic. Harper and I pored over them so I can learn as much as I need to before the ceremony.
As much as I didn't ask for this responsibility, it is mine. Based on what I have found in the books, everything they have told me about not being able to leave seems to be true.
A part of me wants to see if something happens if I try, but I also donât want to be cursed for trying.
âFallon! What is going on over here?â Harper shouts down the hallway, and I hear the pounding of her footsteps against the floor.
Harper looks panicked when she rushes through my door. âI heard yelling and screaming. Then I saw a deformed penis on the driveway. Joanie must be pissed!â
Walking over to Harper, I wrap my arms around her. She hesitates for a second, but hugs me back. Iâm exhausted. Iâve been holding myself up alone for the past few weeks since dad died and Iâm just so damn tired. I need someone to hold me for a bit.
My head hurts. My cheek is throbbing, and my back aches from being pushed into the window.
Releasing her, I walk over to my bed and sit crossed leg, and Harper joins me.
âMerrick.â Is all I need to say. She gets it.
âSo that was his art he added to the driveway then?â I only nod in response. âHow pissed was Joanie?â
Shaking my head, I blow out a deep breath. âShe was livid. She came home and was screaming âFallonâ and I didnât hear her because my headphones were in while I was reading all the stuff we found upstairs about my family and the town. Then she kept shouting and when I finally heard her, I came running down and you would have thought I had thrown pigâs blood all over the place with how pissed she was. Then, we went to the second-floor balcony, because I obviously had no idea what she was going on about. She kept blabbing on saying the most vile things about me and my dad. I wanted to punch her. I wanted to punch her so badly, but before I could, she pulled on my hair and slapped me! I couldnât comprehend what happened, and the next thing I know, Merrick was holding her over the ledge.â Harper's jaw drops as I continue. âI rushed them, because I thought he was definitely going to drop her, but he forced me back into the house. I ended up slamming against the windowsill and hitting my head. Now I have one hell of a headache. He brought her back over, told her off some more and when she goes to leave, he tells her the driveway was him and she snarks on about him always being her least favorite.
